THE NEVERENDING PRIMARY
The 2016 democratic primary is the great waterfall moment for inter-left divisions. Pulling everything before it in, churning everything after it.
After spending sometime on division in the anti-Trump coalition, I revisit this incredibly divisive campaign to end this body of work by looking back at how it all started.
In doing so, I was struck, again and again, that what we are fighting about now, is not what we were fighting about then. The primary never really ended, but grew into somthing else, something angrier, uglier, stupider.
I revisit the history of the campaign and how it shaped our politics now. Uncharacteristically, I end with a note of hope - we may now, finally, be in a place to move beyond it.
